A group of friends of ours came together for a culinary game: Perfect Friends Dinner. Derived from a TV Show called Perfect Dinner. The premise of the show is simple. 5 people from a city are chosen and each contestant has to host the perfect dinner at their place. At the end of the night the invited give out points from 1 to 10 on how perfect in their opinion the evening played out and at the end of the week, the winner gets 5000 Euros.
We added an extra twist to our game. We gave each contestant a theme. And no, sadly there will not be 5000 Euros added to someone's pocket.
And so we headed over to Angie and Daniel's for the first of 5 dinners. Her theme: Movie night.
Upon arrival, we were instructed to open her mailbox and found a potion to drink before we were allowed in. We didn't shrink, but were pretty sure already what movie they were going for. After seeing the cat on the window and the lovely table of amuse bouche, it was clear they had transported us into Wonderland.
But alas that was not the whole story. The queen of hearts and her prince had more in mind.
We were served the first course: Meat pies to die for (there's another clue in die) with literally the best lentils I have ever had. Sweeney Todd? Movies with Johnny Depp in it? Movies with Helena Bonham Carter in it? Not quite. The shoes hung on a string above our heads were a bit of a headscratcher.
But we got there. Alice in Wonderland + Sweeney Todd + shoes referencing the movie Big Fish = Tim Burton of course.
The food was awesomeness. The wine was flowing. Can the rest of us top this perfect dinner? We shall see...
Next up are Lena and Nick and Fast Food Deluxe. Yum, burgers anyone?
